  Landsliding/Flooding

Mr. Collins has experience in many large and complicated landsliding and flooding cases involving damage to multiple properties.  For some examples of the cases that Mr. Collins has handled, click here.

In urban-rural interface zones, these casualties are often directly tied to the effects of wildfires in denuding hillsides.  In more urban areas, these casualties are often related to faulty or leaking water or sewer lines or the destabilizing effects of improper road construction.  This causation is not readily apparent to the untrained observer.  A lawyer who can dispatch trained experts to review the circumstances as quickly as possible is absolutely necessary.

While most insurance policies today exclude landsliding or flooding from coverage (except for FEMA-backed flood insurance), property owners can sometimes obtain compensation for their property damage from responsible public agencies, utilities, or others -- but generally only through litigation.  Be aware that the time deadlines for bringing claims against public agencies are especially short!  Speak to a lawyer as promptly as possible under the circumstances.

Litigation frequently involves complicated expert work in geotechnical, hydrological, and other fields.  It is essential to retain a lawyer who can assemble the necessary experts and present a convincing case to the public agencies.
